I saw you through the front window of the drug store from across the street and smiling to myself I turned to come and see you but there he was. Your antithesis. My nemesis. You laughed. He reached out to touch your cheek and there was a snapping sound like too-tight wire finally losing the battle and I ran.

I love you but there is chaos in my head and the sun makes me dizzy like tiny needles falling through my eyes and into my brain whenever I try to picture you.

We are the broken toys and headless dolls

of a petulant and childish god

Never loved for who we are

but only for what we can be made do

A falcon in a zoo also has

free will

moments of peace

i gather up each

found

moment of peace

and hold it tight to me

treasures for a moment

warming me to the core

as fractured ice melts

but each melt and freeze leaves

razor shards

and weakens my frozen armor

pain and fear is the price i pay

in order to feel more than cold
